Anchor Chain stopper
INSTALLATION and OPERATION: Anchor Chain stopper
This unit is designed to be mounted in direct line between an anchor roller and windlass or chain locker. It must be mounted on deck or pulpit of sufficient strength to handle the forces encountered in anchoring. The unit should be mounted with two flat head 3/8” stainless steel bolts and large washers or backing plate and locknut under the deck or pulpit. The two mounting holes in the deck or pulpit need to be countersunk to a depth of 1/8” with an 82 degree countersink to clear the bottom of the screw heads. A sealant should be used to prevent water from entering the mounting holes. Special care must be taken to mount the unit so that the portion of the U-shaped bracket with the small stopping pin faces forward, toward the bow. In the “open” position, while chain is moving through the unit, the slotted pawl is rotated forward, to rest on the stopping pin, preventing contact with the chain. Once the chain is set, the pawl is “closed” by flipping it back to lock the pawl slot against a vertical link of chain. The chain stopper should never be used for towing, kedging, or other high-load uses.
